ALISO VIEJO, Calif.--(
BUSINESS WIRE)--The 6th annual OCTANe
Medical Device & Investor Forum will bring together industry leaders,
entrepreneurs, and investors for an exciting two-day event with more than 600
attendees anticipated. The event will take place on November 15 and 16 in Irvine, with doors
opening at 10:30 a.m. on the 15th and 7:30 a.m. on the 16th.
“The medical device business is one of the last industries
where the United States
truly has a global competitive advantage,” said Matthew Jenusaitis, president
and CEO of OCTANe. “However, we are at risk to lose this leadership position
due to challenges with the regulatory, funding, and employment markets. Our
goal with the Forum is to help new companies get started, help existing
companies grow, to create new jobs, and to ultimately have a lasting impact on
both our local and national economies.”
To kick off this theme of collaboration, OCTANe will host a
private pre-conference VIP reception on November 14 with the OCTANe board and
leadership. Select CEOs, investors, and entrepreneurs will enjoy an evening
with conference speakers and invited dignitaries at the home of one of OCTANe’s
board members. The following night, K&L Gates, Piper Jaffray and
PricewaterhouseCoopers will host a CEO dinner for 100 medical device industry
leaders and investors, where Piper Jaffray will present an overview of the US capital
markets.
The Forum will commence on November 15 with a keynote
presentation featuring Robert Grant, the CEO of Bausch + Lomb Surgical and
OCTANe’s chairman. Grant will discuss the important role of innovation within
the industry as it faces what is possibly the most challenging time in its
history. To bring a different view of its importance, professional snowboarder
and double-leg amputee Amy Purdy will deliver a powerful message about
perseverance, and about the role the medical device industry plays in her
independence. Also, Ernst & Young will present highlights of their annual
“Pulse of the Industry” report, which gives a global view of the state of the
medical device industry.
Over the course of the two days, fourteen emerging medical
device companies will give investment presentations, featuring early- and
later-stage companies like Stroma Medical, Tenex Health, and Andrew
Technologies. Also, eight panel discussions will deliver expert and timely
information that is critical in today’s rapidly changing healthcare
environment. Topics include pre-clinical trials, patent reform, cardiovascular,
and working with the FDA.
The breakfast keynote on November 16 will feature a
healthcare public policy update with experts from MDMA, AdvaMed and CHI. The
final keynote is Dr. Joshua Makower, a world-renowned doctor, entrepreneur and
venture capitalist. Dr. Makower will discuss the changing face of the FDA and
its impact on the United
State's global leadership
position in medical devices.
“This business conference has emerged as the leading medical
device industry event in the west,” said Jenusaitis, “and we are excited to
welcome some of the nation’s leading CEOs, doctors, entrepreneurs, and venture
capital firms to Orange
County.”
