HeartWare names Larkin as board chairman
HeartWare International Inc., a Framingham maker of heart devices, has appointed board member C. Raymond Larkin, Jr. to the role of chairman of the board, the company announced today.
Larkin will assume the new role on July 1, replacing current chairman Robert Thomas, who has served as chairman since 2004 and will continue to serve as a member of the board.
“As HeartWare is now domiciled in the U.S., and our common stock is successfully listed on Nasdaq, it is an appropriate time to transition board leadership to the U.S.,” Thomas said in a prepared statement.
Larkin also serves as chairman of Align Technology Inc., an orthodontic product developer, and Novasys Medical Inc., a women’s health therapeutics firm.
The HeartWare board has eight members including Larkin, Thomas, Timothy Barberich, Christine Bennett, Doug Godshall, Seth Harrison, Robert Stockman and Denis Wade.
HeartWare (Nasdaq: HTWR) makes miniature implantable cardiac pumps, called left ventricular assist devices, to treat patients suffering from advanced heart failure. The company announced in April that it had begun a partial recall and voluntary repair of controllers, some of which have shown lower-than-normal levels of speaker volume in the alarm system of some implantable blood pumps.
