Baxter India Celebrates World Hemophilia Day April 17, 2010
Baxter India observed World Hemophilia Day in collaboration with eight healthcare facilities across the country in cities including Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Lucknow, Delhi, Trivandrum and Jaipur. Activities ranged from Continuing Medical Education (CME) for doctors, camps for patients, as well as patient and doctor meetings with the purpose of increasing knowledge and management of hemophilia. Over 1,200 patients and their families along with 170 doctors participated in these activities all over the country.
The doctors gave talks on how to live with hemophilia and even provided counseling to patients. Donated factor concentrates were administrated to patients in need, and atmosphere painting and quiz competitions were organized. Guest speakers from the departments of Physiotherapy, Rehabilitation Medicine, Orthopedics and oral hygiene counseled patients and their families.
On April 17, Baxter India also launched a contest in which ten hemophilia patients have the opportunity to win an education scholarship from Baxter India. To participate in this program, applicants are asked to submit a statement, of no more than 300 words that communicates their ambition and how this education scholarship will help them achieve their goals. The title of their statement will be "I Believe I can Fly, with My wings of Belief." The ten most original, relevant and creative entries will receive an education scholarship of Rs. 45,000/- (Rupees Forty Five Thousand Only) each, spread over a period of three years. The winners will be selected by an eminent panel of judges. The program is open only for hemophilia A and hemophilia B patients.
The World Federation of Hemophilia educational video podcast that was sponsored by Baxter, was translated into Hindi, Bengali, and Tamil, and distributed to all chapters of the Hemophilia Federation of India (HFI).
Within the Baxter India organization, the Executive Director of the Society for Hemophilia Care (SHC), a non-governmental agency, gave a talk on hemophilia, which was followed by a quiz for the staff to increase their awareness and understanding of the condition and the role that Baxter plays to make a difference in the lives of those living with hemophilia.
