Community Health Systems buys hospital in SC

Hospital operator Community Health Systems Inc. has acquired Marion Regional Healthcare System, expanding its presence in South Carolina.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Community, which is based in Franklin, Tenn., said the system includes Marion Regional Hospital, a 124-bed, full service acute care hospital; Mullins Nursing Center, a 92-bed skilled nursing facility; and other services.

Marion Regional Hospital became the sixth Community-affiliated acute care hospital in South Carolina.

Community Health Systems owns or leases 123 hospitals in 29 states. The company's shares rose 46 cents to $33.18 in Thursday morning trading.
