Orthovita Inc. said Monday it received regulatory approval for a facility where it will process collagen used in Vitagel, a product used to control bleeding during surgery.

The company said the Food and Drug Administration cleared a supplement for the new facility, which is located in Malvern, Pa. Orthovita said the facility will process the purified form of collagen used in Vitagel.

Vitagel was approved in the U.S. in 2006, and approved in Europe in 2007.
