"Dr. Suresh has a clear vision for the future of this important discipline at Baylor College of Medicine," said Dr. Stephen Spann, senior vice president and dean of clinical affairs at Baylor College of Medicine. "She has demonstrated outstanding leadership skills as interim chair of the department and is an excellent choice for guiding this area."
Suresh has served as interim chair since 2007. She has been a member of the BCM faculty since 1991.
She received her undergraduate training at Women's College and her medical degree from Gandhi Medical College, both in Hyderabad, India. Her postgraduate training was done in India, Barbados and the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond. She completed her residency training at Medical College of Virginia and fellowships in obstetric anesthesia and pediatric anesthesia from Harvard Medical School affiliates.
Suresh was on faculty at University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston from 1980 to 1991, when she joined BCM.
She has received numerous awards as an educator, researcher and clinician, and is a member of a number of professional societies and committees.
