MEDICARE'S ADVANTAGE: Double-digit enrollment growth in lucrative Medicare Advantage plans helped lift Humana Inc.'s second-quarter profit 21 percent and the insurer raised its full-year outlook.
BOTTOM LINE: The company earned $340.1 million, or $2 per share, up from $281.8 million, or $1.67 per share. Revenue rose nearly 10 percent to $8.65 billion. Humana paid out less in claims, allowing it to keep more of each premium dollar that customers paid.
PEER GROUP: Competitors including UnitedHealth Group and Aetna also have reported earnings that topped Wall Street expectations.
