If healthcare CIO confidence is any indication of the chances of electronic health records getting funded from the U.S. government soon, then healthcare organizations should start preparations to adopt EHRs.

A survey conducted by the College of Health Information Management Executives (CHIME) indicated that 90 percent of CHIME member respondents expect to qualify for stimulus funding by the end of Stage 1 of the incentive program, Sept. 30, 2012. Ten percent of the suveyed CIOs took a gloomier outlook in not expecting to qualify for stimulus funding until fiscal years 2013 or 2014.
