LifePoint completes $145M Sumner Regional deal

Hospital operator LifePoint Hospitals Inc. said Wednesday it completed its previously announced purchase of Sumner Regional Health Systems for $145 million plus working capital.

Sumner, which will be renamed HighPoint Health System, employs more than 1,300 people and serves 11 Tennessee counties.

LifePoint said it will spend $60 million on capital investments in the system's four hospitals over the next decade.

LifePoint, based in Brentwood, Tenn., operates 52 hospital campuses in 17 states. The company's stock rose $1.11, or 3.6 percent, to $31.51 in Wednesday afternoon trading.
