FDA plans revamp of approval, tracking processes

Acknowledging the ongoing breakthroughs in science and technology are changing the way drugs are tailored or personalized for individual patients, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration today issued recommendations for how the FDA itself has to adapt its processes and technologies used in evaluating the safety of food and drug products.

The agency noted that advances in research and information technology enable it to “more efficiently identify microbial pathogens, track food contamination outbreaks and determine where foods and other FDA-regulated products are produced or manufactured, how they are transported, where they go and who uses them”.
