Mikhail Shapiro isn’t quite 30, but finds himself already wearing two distinguished hats. He’s a senior associate at Third Rock Ventures, a venture capital firm that focuses exclusively on life sciences investments and has a model of installing its own employees in senior roles at its fledgling portfolio companies. So Shapiro is on the executive team at Foundation Medicine, a Cambridge-based diagnostics company that launched in April with $25 million, is already up to 20 employees and plans to hire several more in the next year. Shapiro recently sat down with reporter Julie M. Donnelly.
