Mass. nets $126M from federal biotech grants
The U.S. Health and Human Services department has confirmed that Massachusetts companies have received $126 million in federal funds through the Therapeutic Discovery Project Grants. The awards have been distributed to approximately 300 life sciences companies, in the fields of biotechnology, life sciences tools, medical devices, diagnostics and even food science. A number of companies also received tax credits associated with the program.
News of the awards, which ranged from $244k to more than $2 million per local company, trickled out through individual companies on Tuesday, but the Federal government would not provide a comprehensive list of the awards until today.
