Genetic testing company Celera named Alfred Merriweather as senior vice president and chief financial officer Monday.

Ugo DeBlasi resigned as chief financial officer for the California in October to be closer to his family in Connecticut, the company said.

Merriweather previously worked as the executive vice president and chief financial officer at Calypso Medical Technologies Inc.

Celera develops genetic testing used in clinical health care and medical research. Its business includes the subsidiary Berkeley HeartLab, which offers services to predict cardiovascular disease risk and improve patient management.

Shares of Celera Corp. fell 13 cents to $6.61.
