Court filing: Scrushy not paying lawyers
A court filing in a civil case involving HealthSouth Corp.'s attempts to seize Richard Scrushy's assets says his lawyers aren't being paid.
The Birmingham News reports that Art Leach, a lawyer for the former HealthSouth CEO, wrote in a recent document that the legal team has minimized court activity in the case because Scrushy hasn't bee able to pay his lawyers.
Scrushy, who's in federal prison in Texas, was ordered last year to pay HealthSouth $2.7 billion after a civil trial. That ruling set off a search for his assets.
Scrushy homes and vehicles have already been turned over to shareholders and were auctioned off. Scrushy and his wife, Leslie, agreed in September to hand over about $10 million in jewelry, cash and investments.
That leaves little left over to pay Leach and Birmingham lawyer Dan Sparks.
