FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) — National physician group Mednax Inc. said Monday it bought Wilmington Maternal-Fetal Medicine PLLC, a physician group in the Carolinas.

It said it paid cash for the practice but did not disclose terms.

Mednax said the practice has two physicians, 12 other staffers, and provides care to expectant mothers in 10 counties in southeast North Carolina and northeast South Carolina.

Mednax said the deal is expected to add to its profits immediately.

Shares of Mednax rose 86 cents to $65.71 in midday trading Monday. Earlier the stock reached an annual high of $65.80.
