BioVex to be acquired by Amgen for up to $1 billion

One of the original biotech stars, Amgen, has reached agreement to acquire Woburn-based BioVex Group Inc. for what could total $1 billion – $425 million in upfront cash and up to $575 million in additional payments based on regulatory and sales milestones.
Amgen, based in Thousand Oaks, Calif., said that the boards of both companies have approved the deal.
