FDA clears Meridian bacteria test
Meridian Bioscience Inc. said Tuesday that the Food and Drug Administration has approved the company's new test for certain bacteria that can cause diarrhea and dangerous inflammation of the colon.
Clostridium difficile, or C. difficile, bacteria are found in the stool of an infected person. People can become infected if they touch items or surfaces that were contaminated with the bacteria or spores and then touch their mouth.
Meridian's Premium C. difficile GDH test is used by laboratories that want to screen patients with diarrhea for forms of C. difficile.
Shares of Meridian rose 52 cents to close at $24.60.
