Shire buys Advanced BioHealing for $750M

Advanced BioHealing Inc., the Connecticut biotech that filed for a $200 million IPO at the beginning of May, has been scooped up before its IPO for $750 million cash by Shire plc, the Irish company with its Human Genetic Therapies business presence in Lexington.

Advanced BioHealing, based in Westport, Conn., is a developer of cell-based regenerative skin therapy. It makes and sells its Dermagraft product, an FDA-approved skin substitute developed to treat diabetic foot ulcers.
