Summary Box: UnitedHealth raises dividend 30 pct
NEW DIVIDEND: Health insurer UnitedHealth Group Inc. said Wednesday it will increase its quarterly dividend 30 percent to 16.25 cents.
OLD DIVIDEND: The Minnetonka, Minn., company became the first big health insurer to start offering a quarterly dividend when it announced a 12.5 cent payment in May 2010.
KEEPING PACE WITH COMPETITORS: Aetna Inc., WellPoint Inc. and Humana Inc. have all announced quarterly dividend payments this year, as strong performances have left health insurers with cash to return to their shareholders. UnitedHealth's dividend increase brings its yield in line with its competitors, based on yesterday's closing price.
