Physician-only social network Sermo Inc. has launched Sermo Mobile, an application that gives physicians real-time access to the knowledge base that resides with the network’s member base of doctors, officials said.

The Cambridge-based company is touting one particular function of the mobile app, called iConsult, with which a physician can take or upload a photograph, X-ray or lab result, “choose a suitable question from the list available and then immediately send it to relevant specialists in the Sermo network.” Right now, the app is available for the iPhone, iPod touch and iPad, and the company did not say in a press release if it had plans for any other platforms, such as Android.
