Precision Optics Corp. Inc., a maker of advanced optical instruments in Gardner, has formed a deal with Intuitive Surgical Operations Inc., a surgical robotics firm in California, bringing $2.5 million to Precision Optics.

As part of the agreement, Intuitive Surgical gains Precision Optics’ issued and non-expired patents and pending patent applications. In exchange, Precision Optics will retain a royalty-free, worldwide license to apply these patents in areas excluding medical robotics, according to a news release today.
