BEDFORD, Mass., Aug. 10, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Instrumentation Laboratory (IL) today announced that it has been awarded a three-year contract for its critical care portfolio with Premier Purchasing Partners, the group purchasing organization of the Premier healthcare alliance.  This is the sixth contract Premier has awarded IL since 1998.  Additionally, IL was named the sole blood gas and critical care testing supplier for ASCEND™ (Accelerated Supply Chain Endeavor) Premier member hospitals.  The ASCEND program, in which a subset of Premier membership participates, is designed to help healthcare providers achieve and sustain rapid improvements in supply chain performance.

The contract covers IL's portfolio of critical care analyzers, reagents and consumables, including IL's flagship product, the GEM® Premier™ 4000 analyzer for blood gas, electrolyte and metabolite and integrated CO-Oximetry testing.  This analyzer features IL's patented Intelligent Quality Management (iQM®), a real-time, automated, continuous quality assurance system.  Also included, GEMweb® Plus Custom Connectivity software offers remote access to any networked analyzer for real-time supervision and status updates, as well as management of automated and operator certification and advanced regulatory compliance.

"Our successful relationship with Premier has spanned more than a decade, during which time IL has achieved continued growth and market leadership," said Brian Durkin, Vice President, North America Sales and National Accounts at IL.  "Further, being named the only critical care testing supplier on the ASCEND contract demonstrates the confidence Premier has in us and our products, and underlines our shared commitment to quality and customer satisfaction."

In addition to the GEM Premier 4000, IL's contract with Premier includes the GEM Premier 3500 critical care analyzer and GEM OPL, a portable CO-Oximeter
