Private company chosen for La. health program
A Connecticut-based company has been chosen by Louisiana's health department to manage its upcoming privatization and coordination of behavioral health services to Medicaid recipients and the uninsured.
Magellan Health Services Inc. was announced Thursday as the Department of Health and Hospitals' selection to operate a $100 million behavioral health program for 100,000 adults and 50,000 children.
Starting in March, Magellan will coordinate care currently scattered across the state's juvenile justice, social services, health and education departments — like addiction treatment, mental health care and care for at-risk youth.
Magellan was tapped for the contract over three other firms that submitted proposals. State and federal officials must agree to the contract before it is final.
