THE RESULTS: Walgreen Co. said Tuesday its fiscal fourth-quarter profit jumped 69 percent, boosted in part by a hefty gain on the sale of a business. Adjusted earnings per share of 57 cents beat Street estimates by 2 cents.

THE SALES: Revenue at the nation's largest drugstore chain rose more than 6 percent, and sales in stores open at least a year, a key metric for retailers, rose 4.4 percent during the quarter ended in August.

THE NEGOTIATIONS: The Deerfield, Ill., company had no progress to report on its ongoing talks with Express Scripts, a contract dispute worth billions in annual revenue for Walgreen.
