CONCORD, Ohio--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jul 31, 2012--Future Path Medical Holding Company, LLC is proud to announce that the US Army Telemedicine and Advanced Technology Research Center (TATRC) has approved a partnership research effort under its bio monitoring portfolio to validate systems and technologies that automate clinical urine management for Ambulatory, Intensive, and Critical Air Transport Care.

The effort will employ Future Path Medical Holding Company, LLC’s patented and FDA-cleared Urine Management System, ( www.future-path.net ), in a clinical study centered at Dwight David Eisenhower Army Medical Center (DDEAMC, Ft. Gordon, GA) Intensive Care Unit (ICU), with programmatic assistance from the Georgia Health Sciences University’s ( www.georgiahealth.edu ) Center for Telehealth.

“Fluid volume management is a critical factor in many care settings and the current care protocol is manual, time consuming, error prone and costly. Future Path’s technology automates the process and is leading edge in this area,” states Major Christopher Colombo, Medical Director of the ICU at Eisenhower Army Medical Center. “Across many care settings, urine flow and output is a key indicator of organ system function, hydration, and other care factors, and in some cases ongoing urine management care is needed such as in spinal cord injuries, sepsis, and burns. Our research shows that as of 2007, spinal cord injuries approximate 0.33% prevalence in Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom (OIF/OEF) (President’s Commission on Care for America’s Returning Wounded Warriors, 2007). The care of these soldiers is complicated and requires the development and implementation of new technologies for ongoing health maintenance.” “We are proud to work as an integral partner with the TATRC and Eisenhower Medical Center,” stated Dr. Max E. Stachura, Georgia Research Alliance Scholar and Director, Georgia Health Sciences University Center for Telehealth. “The opportunity for enhanced care of our soldiers with new and innovative technology such as Future Path’s systems is critical to explore and document. The study will provide data and experience applicable to the civilian health care sector as well.” “We are honored and excited to assist in this important study,” said Brian Gilbert, Chief Executive Officer of Future Path Medical Holding Company, LLC. “Any time our efforts can lead to improving the life and care of our Armed Forces personnel it’s a top priority. We strongly believe our open standard software and wireless sensor-based approach can radically improve care and efficiency in fluid and temperature management.” More details on study timing and results will be forthcoming as they become available.
