Medtronic launches its CareLink Express remote monitoring system for implanted cardiac devices like pacemakers and defibrillators.
Medtronic (NYSE:MDT) is touting the economic benefit of its CareLink Express remote monitoring system for implanted cardiac devices, saying it's the 1st medical device company to offer connectivity for its pacemakers and defibrillators.
The CareLink system interrogates the implanted cardiac device when a patient arrives at a healthcare facility. The data is sent back to Medtronic, where a "device expert" evaluates it and reports their assessment back to the healthcare provider.
"Based on the device assessment, the healthcare facility staff determines the appropriate treatment for the patient," according to a press release. "In addition, the implanted device data is automatically sent via the CareLink Network to the patient's device-following physician, for immediate access."
