Pathfinder Therapeutics and NeuroLogica Corp. Announce Technology Integration to Improve Outcomes
NASHVILLE, Tenn. & DANVERS, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct 23, 2012--Pathfinder Therapeutics, the developer of computer-assisted surgical navigation products for soft tissue organs, and NeuroLogica Corp., the manufacturer of portable CT imaging devices, announced today an agreement to integrate their innovative technologies.
In use at top cancer centers in the US, the Pathfinder’s Explorer™ system was designed to improve visualization for more precise liver cancer procedures. For its real-time tracking capabilities, Explorer™ has relied on pre-operative CT images and intra-operative ultrasound to assist in mapping the patient’s anatomy during surgery. However, by utilizing NeuroLogica’s BodyTom ®, the world’s first portable and intra-operative 32-slice, full body CT scanner, surgeons using Explorer will have the ability to navigate in surgery with the most updated anatomical information available to further improve patient outcomes and surgical accuracy. NeuroLogica’s Global Vice President of Sales and Marketing, David Webster, recognized this marriage of technologies as the next step in effective surgical treatment in soft tissue cancer procedures.
“NeuroLogica understands that active soft tissue navigation is the future of the OR and in order to accomplish this, the surgeon needs real-time information,” said Webster. “BodyTom can do what no other intra-operative imaging device on the market can do, deliver the highest quality, most detailed images of soft tissue organs. The partnership between NeuroLogica and Pathfinder marks the start of a new generation in these life-saving procedures.” Similarly, Pathfinder’s CEO Jim Cloar recognizes the significance of implementing real-time imaging into the real-time tracking capabilities of their Explorer™ device.
“On its own, our technology improves upon today’s standard practice, navigating off of inconsistent ultrasound images,” noted Cloar. “Utilizing NeuroLogica’s imaging capabilities with our device enables greater visualization, improved real time accuracy and giving the surgeon the greatest chance to eradicate all of a cancerous tumor. We could not be more excited to integrate this technology into our product offering, because we know it will benefit patients.” For more information on the integrating between Pathfinder and NeuroLogica, contact Jim Cloar at firstname.lastname@example.org or Jason Wheeler at email@example.com.
About Pathfinder Pathfinder is the first company to receive FDA clearance for a medical device to navigate liver surgery using pre-operative medical images. The Explorer™ system uses state-of-the-art line of sight localization and surface registration techniques to show surgeons where they are in the context of their target organ and surrounding anatomical structures. Pathfinder is dedicated to increasing the number and effectiveness of surgeries on soft tissue organs by improving surgical precision. The Explorer™ system allows surgeons to "see through" the organ they are operating on by registering the surgical instrument in three-dimensional space onto the patient's pre-operative medical images. In addition to Explorer, Pathfinder sells Scout, a software system for liver surgery planning. The Company is also developing an embodiment of Explorer to be used in minimally invasive surgical interventions in the liver. Beyond liver, Pathfinder is developing its application for use on the kidney and pancreas, as well as other organs. For more information, visit www.pathsurg.com.
