Ethicon Launches Next Generation Energy Device at American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons’ Annual Meeting
PHOENIX--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Apr 25, 2013--To expand choice and help surgeons provide greater precision, Ethicon Endo-Surgery, Inc. (Ethicon) today announces the launch of the HARMONIC ACE ® + Shears with Adaptive Tissue Technology (HARMONIC ACE ® + Shears), the next generation product in the best-in-class HARMONIC ® portfolio of ultrasonic surgical devices that can handle multiple surgical jobs – including dissection, sealing, transection and otomy creation.
The HARMONIC ACE ® + Shears, which Ethicon will feature April 27 – May 1, 2013 at the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons’ Annual Meeting, set a new standard for precision with these innovative features: Adaptive Tissue Technology - Responds intelligently to varying tissue conditions by regulating energy delivery and providing surgeons with enhanced audible feedback. This enables the HARMONIC ACE ® + Shears to exhibit 23% less thermal spread 1 while delivering 21% shorter transection times 2, as compared to HARMONIC ACE ® without Adaptive Tissue Technology. Refined blade design - Tapered, coated blade designed for multi-functionality with precise grasping and dissection. HARMONIC ACE ® + Shears are designed for use in numerous specialties and procedures, including colorectal, general, bariatric, gynecology, urology and thoracic, enhancing surgeons’ ability to handle multiple jobs with superior precision.
“I feel that the Harmonic ACE+ Shears are one of the most efficient tools we have at our disposal. The speed at which it transects tissues and the consistency with which it creates hemostasis is important to me,” said Jennifer Silinsky, M.D., Colon and Rectal Surgery Associates, Metairie, LA. “The new Adaptive Tissue Technology will help me with a much more accurate dissection of tissues without compromising tissue integrity,” added Silinsky.
Adaptive Tissue Technology represents a powerful development platform that builds upon a strong HARMONIC ® legacy of innovation. Starting with its first surgical use in 1992, HARMONIC ® ultrasonic technology helped launch the laparoscopic evolution and enabled surgeons to develop new techniques that help define the standards of care. Moving forward, future HARMONIC® devices will further leverage Adaptive Tissue Technology to provide even greater functionality and benefits.
“We strive to innovate surgical solutions that optimize patient outcomes by minimizing tissue trauma and advancing healing. With the introduction of Adaptive Tissue Technology, the HARMONIC ACE ® + Shears elevate the precision of the HARMONIC ® portfolio,” said Joe Amaral, M.D., Ethicon’s Vice President of Energy Science. “Ethicon is committed to providing surgeons more choices to meet the unique needs of their patients and procedures, while reducing complexity and helping to reduce cost. This is one of the advances that delivers on that commitment.” The HARMONIC ACE+ ® is the latest in a line of customer-driven innovations introduced from Ethicon including the recently FDA 510(k) cleared ENSEAL ® G2 Articulating Tissue Sealer and the ENSEAL ® G2 Cordless Tissue Sealer – all designed to provide surgeons more choices to meet the unique needs of their patients and procedures.
