Connecticut-based NovaTract Surgical, Inc. chooses back-to-back surgical meetings – SAGES 2013 and ASCRS 2013 – to reveal its entry product
NovaTract Surgical, Inc., a venture-backed startup medical device company, unveils its leading-edge laparoscopic entry device, the NovaTract™ dynamic retractor, at two major scientific meetings this month: the SAGES (Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons) 2013 Surgical Spring Week in Baltimore and the ASCRS (American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons) 2013 meeting in Phoenix.
The NovaTract™ dynamic retractor is a 5mm laparoscopic device designed for general, colorectal, gynecologic, urologic, and robotic-assisted minimally invasive surgery. The NovaTract™ offers improved tissue manipulation with its exclusive tension adjusting system, coupled with the ability to easily modify the angle of retraction as needed. The unique patent-pending retraction system helps increase visualization while reducing the number of ports needed. This award-winning technology will allow the surgeon to achieve reduced-port surgeries without changing surgical technique. The company expects the device to be available commercially by summer 2013.
The SAGES and ASCRS meetings (held April 17-20 and April 27-May 1, respectively) collectively bring together over 4,000 gastrointestinal, endoscopic and colorectal surgeons from around the world to view the latest innovations in surgery and receive up-to-date training and education.
“SAGES and ASCRS 2013 are a great selection for the company to reveal the NovaTract™ dynamic retractor,” says NovaTract Surgical, Inc. Chief Executive Officer Eleanor L. Tandler. “We had an overwhelmingly positive reception at SAGES and are looking forward to seeing how the attendees at ASCRS respond to the device and potential clinical applications.”
In addition to having a booth at the conferences, an abstract submitted by inventor Kurt E. Roberts, M.D., Associate Professor of General Surgery at Yale University School of Medicine, was accepted into the “Emerging Technologies” poster session which displayed all week at SAGES and is archived on the SAGES website. In his poster, Dr. Roberts addresses the need and viability for reduced-port laparoscopic cholecystectomies using new technologies such as the NovaTract™.
