Welch Allyn Aims to Improve Patient Comfort and Safety with Acrylic Vaginal Specula and Cordless Illumination System
Company offers free product with purchase of disposable specula or exam lights
Welch Allyn, a leading medical diagnostic device company that specializes in helping clinicians improve patient outcomes, today announced a new promotion designed to help women’s health providers improve patient comfort and safety with its disposable KleenSpec® Vaginal Specula and Welch Allyn Cordless Illumination System. The company is offering United States office-based OB/GYNs and family physicians a free Cordless Illumination System with the purchase of two cases of disposable vaginal specula. All sizes of the company’s vaginal specula are designed to work with the Welch Allyn Cordless Illumination System—including the new extra small version. The specula are made of smooth, molded acrylic to help prevent pinching or binding of tissue and their wider handles provide improved ergonomics and balance. The promotion runs through September 30.
“Since safety, comfort and satisfaction is the goal of patients and clinicians alike, our goal is to put these systems in the hands of as many providers as possible,” said Tracy Bennett, M.D., product manager, women’s health at Welch Allyn. “We are proud to say we offer every size of disposable vaginal speculum needed for all types of patients and healthcare settings. They eliminate the time and expense of reprocessing, help reduce the risk of cross-contamination and are easier to manipulate during exams.”
Now available in extra small, small, medium and large sizes, KleenSpec Disposable Vaginal Specula are designed to fit directly onto the Welch Allyn Cordless Illumination System. The system features automatic on/off, light-emitting diodes (LEDs) which provide a whiter, brighter light source that enhances visualization of the exam area with true tissue rendition and less heat than conventional halogen lamps. The lights in the Cordless Illumination System feature a continuous on-time capability of 80 minutes and a rechargeable lithium ion battery.
“I had been using the corded version of the Welch Allyn Illumination System since 1980 and was thrilled when the cordless system was introduced,” said Shelley Kolton, M.D., of Downtown Women OB/Gyn Associates in New York City. “We have been using the Welch Allyn Cordless Illumination System with the disposable vaginal speculum for all of our patient exams since 2008 and couldn’t be happier. This light is brighter than any I have ever seen and shows true tissue color. If you forget to charge the light, it is easy to grab a replacement from another room or use a spare. The light is small, easy and quick to use which truly makes us more efficient. With retail space in Manhattan at a premium, not having any floor space taken up by a light source is a great benefit to us. I would recommend this system to any clinicians looking to improve the quality of their care.”
Also part of the promotion, Welch Allyn is offering a free Green Series™ Exam Light IV or Green Series 600 Minor Procedure Light with the purchase of four. The Welch Allyn Green Series Medical Exam Lights feature energy-efficient LEDs and provide true color rendition, a uniform spot and minimal heat dissipation for greater patient comfort. The lights feature touchless on/off and intensity control features that help reduce the risk of cross-contamination and the ergonomic design simplifies cleaning. These LEDs do not require bulb replacement and have 50,000 hours of life. The Green Series Exam Light IV is designed for the OB/GYN office, providing three times the typical light output and a highly flexible light pipe, and the Green Series 600 Minor Procedure Light features three LEDs and a wider head designed for minor procedures and exams.
“We are excited to offer clinicians high-performance LED exam lights that can improve examinations and save them money at the same time,” added Bennett. “Clinicians are under constant pressure to save time and treat patients quickly without compromising care. By offering more features and benefits on our line of medical exam lights, we help reduce these pressures so practitioners can be more productive and focus on their most important task—enhancing patient care.”
