Photos of the Day: Contrast-Free Portable X-Rays

A test device built at MIT as a proof-of-principle for the new, higher-resolution X-ray system, using a vacuum chamber that measures eight inches across. The team expects that eventual production models would be substantially smaller.


A sample X-ray of a human wrist demonstrates the system's ability to reveal soft-tissue structures and very fine detail.
