Qualcomm Monitoring Health of Japanese Seniors
In partnership with a Japanese corporation, Qualcomm Inc. said July 22 that it has embarked on an experiment to monitor the health of 300 elderly residents in rural Japan, including areas of snow-prone Hokkaido in the north. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Residents will wear devices that measure health information such as blood pressure, weight and distance walked. The devices will relay that information to doctors via Qualcomms third-generation wireless network. The doctors, in turn, can advise the patients to adjust their activities as needed.
Qualcomms partner is Medical Platform Asia. The corporation, also known as MedPA, is working with mobile virtual network operator Chealcomm, which specializes in advanced wireless and wellness services.
Qualcomms Nasdaq symbol is QCOM.
