B.U. to share in $19M breast cancer research grant
Boston University  will share in a $19.3 million grant to study racial disparities in breast cancer diagnosis and treatment.
The grant was awarded by the National Cancer Institute, one of the National Institutes of Health. B.U. researchers will work alongside those from the University of North Carolina and Roswell Park Cancer Institute to study why African-American women are more likely than women of European descent to be diagnosed with breast cancer before age 45, and are also more likely to be diagnosed with aggressive types of breast cancer that are linked to more deaths.
