Plastic surgeons celebrate the 50th anniversary of silicone breast augmentation and reconstruction.

MASSDEVICE ON CALL — It was 50 years ago this month that doctors in Houston, Texas, performed the 1st breast implant procedure using a silicone gel encased in silicone rubber lining.

Millions of breast augmentation procedures have been performed since, with more than 316,000 reported in 2011 alone.
