Plastic Dissipates Heat, Increases Life of LED Units

A thermally conductive plastic, CoolPoly, has been developed expressly for managing the heat output of increasingly popular light emitting diodes (LEDs). While conventional plastics act as thermal insulators, CoolPoly thermally conductive plastics dissipate heat to enable LED lighting designers turning to LEDs to mold thermal management into their LED luminaires. This enables them to achieve more light and longer lifecycles for the LEDs. As with other forms of lighting, heat remains a major problem, cutting into the 15 year expected life efficiency of LEDs. CoolPoly manages the heat output of LEDs when used at the die, board, and enclosure levels to reduce temperatures, enhance brightness, and increase lifetime.
