Self-Sanitizing KeyboardVioguard™ LLC today announced it has signed an agreement with HP to provide hospitals with a powerful new weapon to combat the spread of deadly bacteria and viruses from shared computer keyboards. The FDA-approved Vioguard self-sanitizing computer keyboard is the first to use the germicidal properties of ultraviolet light to destroy harmful viruses and bacteria, eliminating manual cleaning processes and reducing the spread of hospital-acquired infections (HAIs).

The addition of the Vioguard keyboard to HP's healthcare solutions comes at a time when IT has become a critical component in hospital infection control strategies. A recent study found that the computer keyboard is the fourth most likely item in a hospital to spread infections, contributing to nearly 4 percent of all HAIs. Vioguard's self-sanitizing keyboard is the first computer peripheral that directly deals with the issue of cross-contamination among shared workstations, automatically destroying 99.9 percent of harmful bacteria within seconds.

As one of HP's premiere healthcare solution providers, Vioguard joins a trusted program of end-to-end healthcare IT systems for medical facilities worldwide.

The partnership announcement comes on the heels of the FDA’s approval of the Vioguard keyboard as a medical device, allowing the companies to rollout the product to hospitals in support of their efforts to reduce the incidence of HAIs.
