Connectors have continually played an important role in the design of medical equipment. Today, as certain types of equipment become more compact to meet portability requirements, so too must the connectors without sacrificing functionality. While many types of miniature connectors already exist, most are not designed to the high reliability and robust mating requirements of portable imaging equipment. Designing a connector that is small enough to meet size constraints but has a high enough pin count to be used in portable medical equipment has proven to be a challenge.
