LayerWise is the first production centre in Belgium that exclusively focuses on the Additive Manufacturing (AM) process for metal parts. The company was founded by Jonas Van Vaerenbergh and Peter Mercelis, both of whom were closely involved in the development of Selective Laser Melting (SLM) at the Catholic University of Leuven. LayerWise intensively collaborates with the Catholic University of Leuven, and systematically invests 30% of its resources in Research and Development to push the boundaries of the technology.
Specialised in Additive Manufacturing (AM), LayerWise produces revolutionary orthopedic, maxillofacial, spinal and dental implants. By subsequently laser melting thin metal layers, LayerWise produces the most complicated implant designs offering increased functionality. LayerWise develops both serial-produced implants and unique patient-specific implants together with doctors, surgeons and medical device companies. Continuous application-driven research in collaboration with customers is critical in achieving the best results and providing maximum patient benefits.
As part of their own development stages, customers rely on LayerWise to produce multiple implant prototype variants in order to efficiently evaluate implant concepts and sizes. After finalising a new implant design, the AM technology can be applied for serial implant production. AM-produced implants offer distinct advantages, both from a medical and economic point of view.
