Medical equipment maker HealthTronics Inc. said Tuesday that it received Food and Drug Administration clearance for the Cryocare CS system, which uses extreme cold to treat cancer of the kidneys and prostate.
The Cryocare system includes ultrasound technology, insulated cryoprobes, and a urethral warmer. The system was developed by Endocare, which HealthTronic acquired in 2009. The FDA gave premarket clearance to the system, which means the FDA determined it was equivalent to products currently on the market.
Shares of Healthtronics rose a penny to close at $4.80.
