Ximedica LLC, a Providence, R.I.-based medical device firm, has all signs pointing to growth – real estate expansion plans, a new medical director position appointed and a report of hiring 30 people since early 2009.
The company has hired 30 people since April 2009, with plans for 20 percent growth going forward, according to CFO Bill Stetter, who points to Ximedica’s shift in business strategy two years ago. “What’s driving our growth is this refocusing,” he said. The company moved its contract development and manufacturing work from broad-based applications to more specifically medical devices and consumer health.
The news follows Ximedica’s June announcement that the company is growing its footprint by adding 23,000 square feet of lab and manufacturing facilities to its Providence headquarters. Planned for 2011 completion, the larger site will accommodate the company’s new clean rooms, as well as space for technical development and prototyping.
Also last month, Ximedica named Anita Kestin to the newly created role of staff medical director. Kestin joined the company having served previously as an active clinician and researcher in hematology and oncology at Rhode Island Hospital, Medical Center of Central Massachusetts and Massachusetts General Hospital.
Ximedica serves medical device and health-care firms by providing research, product development, regulatory and manufacturing expertise. The company also has a satellite office in Hong Kong.
