Former HealthSouth Corp. CEO Richard Scrushy and his wife have agreed to hand over up to $12 million in cash and property to the company.

The money will settle claims that Leslie Scrushy was hiding her husband's belongings to prevent them from being seized by the Birmingham company. The settlement will be taken out of the $3.2 billion that Richard Scrushy was ordered to pay HealthSouth last year when he was found liable for fraud that nearly bankrupted the company while he was in charge in 2003.

According to court documents, Leslie Scrushy will give up $3 million in jewelry, furniture, furs and other possessions. That includes two bracelets valued at $500,000 and a ring worth $475,000.

Her attorney said the settlement will give her a chance to "move on in her life with her children."

Scrushy escaped criminal sanctions but was found liable during a civil trial in Jefferson County Circuit court in 2009.
