Neogen Corp., which makes test kits for food and animal safety, said Wednesday the Food and Drug Administration approved its test for Salmonella.

The company said its test is equivalent to current methods in accuracy, precision, and sensitivity but shortens the testing time. The newly approved test detects the presence of the bacteria in eggs or the area where they are produced.

Shares of Neogen rose 9 cents to $39.41 in afternoon trading.
