Medical products maker ArthroCare Corp. said Tuesday the Food and Drug Administration cleared its Spartan 5.5 Needled Anchor, which is used to fix soft tissue to bone in procedures like a rotator cuff repair.

The Austin, Texas, company said the preloaded, threaded anchor has a screw-in design and can be used for single- and double-row repairs. The needled version is used for open repairs while a non-needled version that already has FDA clearance is used for arthroscopic repairs.
