Microsoft Corp. is investing further in electronic health records (EHR), and Watertown company athenahealth Inc. is supporting the efforts.

The two companies have formed an alliance to create an EHR platform, in which the cloud-based athenaClinicals and athenaCollector will be used with Microsoft Amalga, the company’s “health intelligence platform” designed to gather data from different IT systems, to aid communication between doctors, hospitals and patients.
