The Rhode Island Science and Technology Advisory Council (STAC) has singled out eight research projects and 23 scientists from 13 institutions for a total of $1.4 million in grants.

The eight projects each involve several collaborating educational institutions, hospitals and private companies, The grants are typically in the range of $100,000 to $200,000. According to STAC, the grant program has awarded about $6.5 million to 38 teams since 2007, helping those programs bring in an additional $10 million in funding from various sources.
