Chelmsford semiconductor technology maker Brooks Automation Inc. has decided to sell a contract manufacturing business unit based in Oregon for $80 million in cash to Canadian firm Celestica Inc.

Selling off the Portland, Ore., operations will allow Brooks (Nasdaq: BRKS) to focus on making technology for controlled pressure and temperature environments, according to a statement from the company president and CEO Steve Schwartz. The deal, which is expected to close this quarter, will in particular give Brooks cash to be used in areas outside its traditional strength of wafer front end semiconductor capital equipment, Schwartz said, in a release.
