French drug company Sanofi-aventis SA, the new parent company of Cambridge biotech Genzyme Corp., has simplified its name to Sanofi at its annual shareholders meeting on Friday.

The company made the change public in a summary of meeting activity, which included approval of a dividend of 2.5 euros per share, payable June 16. The announcement of the name change comes just under a month after Sanofi completed its $20 billion takeover of Genzyme Corp.
