Allied Minds, a Boston private equity firm focused on building companies, has launched SciFluor Life Sciences LLC and invested $5 million in the biotechnology startup to support commercialization of the company’s fluorination technology.

SciFluor is developing the technology to improve organic compound properties like potency, metabolic stability, bioavailability, binding affinity and blood-brain barrier penetration. The late-stage fluorination technology, licensed exclusively from Harvard University, was founded by Tobias Ritter, an associate professor of chemistry and chemical biology at Harvard. The SciFluor teams consists of Ritter, as CTO of the company; serial entrepreneur Don Ciappenelli, as president and general manager; Takeru Furuya, as director of chemistry; and serial entrepreneur Daniel Behr, as vice president of business development, in addition to his current role as director at Allied Minds.
