Blood collection and processing systems maker Haemonetics Corp. said Monday that its board named Rich Meelia, CEO of Covidien PLC, as chairman, effective immediately.
Meelia, 62, will retire as CEO of the Irish drug and medical device maker July 1 but will remain a non-executive chairman of that company. Haemonetics said Meelia has nearly 40 years of health care industry experience and had served on the Haemonetics board from 2005 to 2009. He resigned to focus on his job as Covidien CEO.
Haemonetics shares climbed 5 cents to $66.15, and Covidien stock dropped 93 cents to $53.29.
