Ziopharm Oncology Inc., a New York cancer therapeutics firm with the bulk of its operations in Charlestown, has named a new executive vice president and chief medical officer in Hagop Youssoufian, most recently the chief medical officer and senior vice president of global clinical sciences of ImClone Systems Inc.

Youssoufian’s career spans academic and corporate appointments. Early in his career, he served as assistant professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School, and as associate professor and division chief of medical genetics at Baylor College. Adding to his academic roles, he served as medical director of Bristol-Myers Squibb and as distinguished clinical scientist of Sanofi SA before taking his post at ImClone.
